What to Expect on the Day
Pre-dawn hotel pickup
The operator collects you from your hotel in the dark, usually between 4:30 and 6:00am depending on the season.
Set two alarms. Missing the pickup means missing the flight.Weather check and briefing
At the launch field the pilot confirms conditions and gives a short safety briefing. If the wind is wrong, the flight is postponed, not risked.
Inflation and take-off
You watch the crew fire the burners and inflate the balloon, climb into the basket, and lift off so gently you barely feel it.
The flight
For about an hour the pilot drifts over the valleys, rising high for the panorama and dropping low between the fairy chimneys.
Keep your phone on a wrist strap. There is nothing between you and a long drop.Landing and toast
The crew guides the basket back down, then it is the traditional sparkling-wine toast and a flight certificate before the drive back.
What to Bring (and What to Leave at Home)
✓ Bring
- Warm layers and a light jacket (mornings are cold)
- Closed flat shoes
- A hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Camera or phone with a wrist strap
- Your booking voucher
✗ Leave behind
- High heels or loose sandals
- Loose scarves without straps
- Selfie sticks and tripods (often not allowed in the basket)
- Large bags, since basket space is tight

How to Choose a Good Balloon Operator
What good operators do
- Hold a commercial balloon pilot licence and Turkish civil-aviation (SHGM) authorisation
- Postpone or cancel when the wind or visibility is marginal
- State the basket size and passenger count clearly
- Include hotel transfers, a toast and a flight certificate
- Have hundreds of recent, verified reviews
Red flags to avoid
- Pressure you to fly in borderline weather
- Hide the basket size or overload the basket
- Show no clear licence or authorisation
- Offer no free cancellation or weather refund
- Advertise prices that look too good to be true
