What to Expect on the Day
Pre-dawn hotel pickup
A minibus collects you from your riad or hotel in the dark and drives out to the launch field on the plain north of Marrakech, usually around 5:30am.
Inflation and take-off
You watch the crew fire the burners and inflate the balloon on the plain, climb into the basket, and lift off gently as the sky lightens.
The flight
For about an hour you drift over palm groves, Berber villages and the flat Haouz plain, with the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains glowing on the horizon.
You fly over the countryside near Marrakech, not the Sahara. The famous dunes are a long drive further east.Berber breakfast and camel ride
After landing you sit down to a traditional Berber breakfast of mint tea, msemen pancakes and honey, and many tours add a short camel ride before the drive back.

- Camera or phone with a wrist strap
- Cash for a tip or souvenirs

✗ Leave behind

How to Choose a Good Balloon Operator
What good operators do
- Hold a Moroccan civil-aviation balloon operator licence
- Postpone or cancel when the wind or visibility is marginal
- State the basket size and passenger count clearly
- Include hotel transfers, a Berber breakfast and a certificate
- Have thousands of recent, verified reviews
Red flags to avoid
- Overload a giant basket with 24-plus passengers
- Hide the passenger count or the breakfast details
- Pressure you to fly in borderline weather
- Offer no free cancellation or weather refund
- Advertise a low price that omits transfers or breakfast
